American Romanticism
1) What about the story did you find particularly Romantic? You may want to reread the section on Romanticism again to refresh your memory. Give at least two examples with direct evidence for each

That no one could sleep for 20 years
“but it’s twenty years since he went away from home with his gun, and never has been heard of since—his dog came home without him”

That Van Winkle was a normal person
“A simple good-natured fellow, of the name of Rip Van Winkle”

4)

Ropewalk is a good example for Romanticism because he uses his imagination to escape to a place to take his mind off of his work.
· Two fair maidens in a swing,Like white doves upon the wing,

· And a girl poised high in airOn a cord, in spangled dress,With a faded loveliness, And a weary look of care.

#5)

It a picture of nature
Requires your imagination

I choose this picture because Spider Man is a real good example of an romantics. Peter is an original person like everybody else but he gets bite by a spider that gives him super powers. That part takes some imagination to understand what is going on because spiders don’t give you super strength.

The Rationalist

1. Briefly describe the differences between the Puritans and the Rationalists. Please be careful not to repeat the same words you have read in this entry. Then give an example of something going on today that would be a good illustration of Puritan thought, and one that would be a good example of Rationalist thought.

Rationalist are the smarter of the two they use their head to figure out thing and make decisions based on theory.

Puritans are the craziest because they think that everything happens because of the mood that God is in.

2) Give one example from The Autobiography of how Franklin is a good example of a rationalist. Make sure you explain why, and provide an example straight from the text.

Example the shows how is a good example of a rationalist, the metal rod on top of the house was used for protection from the lighting. Cause rationalist thought that God was mad at them that are why it was lighting but Franklin used his head and said the reason it was lighting was not because of God’s mood.

3) If you were to make a list of thirteen virtues to improve upon in your life, what would they be? List them the way Franklin did. There are a couple more good examples here. Do you think you could reach moral perfection in this way? Explain how you feel. This should be a paragraph or two.

1) Silence-speak only when spoken to
2) Realness-Speak the truth nothing but the truth and only the truth
3) seriousness- Take time in things that means the most
4) priories- Care for the stuff that is going to affect me in life first and all other things last
5) Cleanliness- Keep up with my clothes and shoes
6) Attitude- when mad or aggravated thank of good time to keep you from blowing up
7) Friends- School during school and friends out of school
8) Family- Family before friends
9) Pure Pressure- Don’t do things cause everybody else is doing it
10) Smartness- Be as smart as you can be no matter what everybody thinks
11) effort- do your best no matter always try to be number one
12) laziness- don’t be lazy in front of people keep it a secret
13) imagination- Be as creative as possible make life as fun a possible
14) overload- takes everything one by one and a day by day

Puritans

1) Briefly summarize the Puritans' beliefs. This should be a paragraph or two

The Puritans beliefs are that we were born it to sins and that god is angry at us. They said that only a few people go to heaven, but the rest of the people that god do not like is going straight to hell and there is nothing that they can do. Puritans just say that u has to be a chosen one to go to heaven but u does not know until you are dead so really knows.

2) Write a 4-5 paragraph response to the Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Of Plymouth Plantation. Explain your thoughts about how these people lived. Better responses will have some direct textual evidence to support what you say. You may want to review these texts before writing your response

Puritans are a group of people that thought that God was an angry being that is mad at us as soon as we are born. They think that God was mad at all humans because of some thing that Adam and Eve did back in the beginning of time.

These puritans were senseless because of the thought that someone would hold a grudge for hundreds and hundreds of years and the people that they said he was mad at did not even have anything to do with what Adam and Eve did.

Although they were senseless they were kind of smart. They use this as a method to take over or make they self look better than everybody else because they said that only the chosen ones were able to go to heaven and God one choose a hand full of people that he accepted into heaven.

3) Choose two of the four beliefs at the beginning of this post of which you saw examples in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, or Of Plymouth Plantation. Provide these examples with direct textual evidence.

Total Depravity –
Through Adam and Eve's fall, every person is born sinful - concept of Original Sin.
It said,”Everybody is born a sinner”

Unconditional Election –
God "saves" those he wishes - only a few are selected for salvation every one else was going to hell.
That “God did not die for all”
They believed “there was no way the earn God’s grace”

How can growing up be both exciting and painful?

Growing up can be exciting, because you are anticipating that age so you can have more privilege.
-like some parents say you cant get a phone until you are a certain age
-you cant wait until you turn 15 so u can get your learners or your first job
-when you turn 18 you can go to the club and 21 to drink

But it can be painful because of the same things because it is painful to wait on some things especially if you really want it
